Boat & Board Drop Off and Parking in Squamish
Drop your boat or board off at Porteau Cove from 9:00 – 11:00 AM then head to Squamish. Stop at Galileo Coffee on your way there if you have time – their scones and muffins are awesome.
Park your vehicle in Squamish in the lot east of O’Siem Pavilion across Logger’s Lane (THERE WILL BE PARKING ATTENDANTS). Click here for directions.
Be sure to leave your dry clothing in your car and have a place to stash your keys.
EVERYONE HAS TO check in on Saturday July 14th between 9-11.30am at the O’Siem Pavilion in Squamish even if they have picked up their race number earlier. If you do not check in, you will NOT be recorded as a racer.
At check in you will also get your race #, sponsor stickers and swag bag. Your race number will need to be applied to your boat or board prior to the race start. There will be coffee and snacks at the race check-in. You can also arrive early and have breakfast at “Chef Big D’s,” a breakfast joint a short walk from the O’Siem Pavillion.
Race Number placement
In order for us to be able to see your race number as you cross the finish line, please place it:
Surfskis and OCs – The left side of the boat, as forward as possible, on the SIDE of your boat.
SUPs and Prone – the left front deck. You will also have a number written on your arm.
Please DO NOT put it on top of the deck so the number cannot be read!
If your race number cannot be read by the timers or spotters your race time may be recorded incorrectly.
Also, please help promote our Title Sponsors, CapriCMW by applying the stickers in your swag bag to your surfski and board.
Buses to Porteau Cove from Squamish.
Buses will leave the Squamish Pavilion at 12 noon sharp. PLEASE do not be late – these buses are the only way for you to get to Porteau Cove. Please do NOT drive your car unless it is absolutely essential as parking is VERY LIMITED and you do not want to be delayed finding parking. The buses will be leaving Squamish Pavilion at 12 noon SHARP.
If you have not done so already, please take this time to affix your race number and sponsor stickers to you surfski.
Race Meeting and Roll Call
1pm AT PORTEAU COVE. Mandatory attendance we need to know who is starting the race.
Race Start between 1.30pm and 2.30pm – wind-dependent
The SUPs and prone paddlers will start ahead of the surfskis and OCs by 15 minutes. Please be on the start line promptly.
Pre-determined 30 surfski racers will be given pink race numbers. These 30 paddlers will be given priority on the start line. These are predominantly professional racers, whose times will be used to determine their placing in the World Surfski Series so please if you have a white race STICKER do not over-lap the boats of the racers on the front line.
Please keep paddling until you cross BETWEEN THE TWO finishing buoys! Your time may be incorrectly recorded if you do not cross the finish line.
Once you are done, please clear the finish area as soon as possible. There is a landing area adjacent to the finish area. Please be cautious not to interfere with other finishers, and do not pass through finish area. DO NOT check your time with race officials. There will be snacks and drinks at the finish area near the beach – please stick around and support the rest of the field – we are planning to have refreshments available at the finish line as well as a nice grassy area to leave your ski, canoe or board while you recover from the race.
Food will be served at 4pm – racers will not be given dinner tickets because we know who you are. If you have paid for a non-paddler’s dinner you will receive their ticket at registration. There will also be beer.
The Awards will be at 5pm.
